On November 6, members of the Madison teachers union (MTI) invited Worker Justice Wisconsin to set up an information booth during parent-teacher conferences. Our organizers spoke in Spanish with parents coming in and out of conferences about their rights and issues at work. We met fast food workers, restaurant workers, cleaners, and stay-at-home parents, all eager to learn more about their rights as employees.
Tabling in community spaces like schools and churches is a crucial means of making contact with workers. Folks lead busy lives juggling work and family, so finding time to learn about how to improve their workplaces often gets put on the back burner.
If you are involved in a community organization that has regular contact with low-wage and/or immigrant workers, please reach out to robert@workerjustice.org if you would like us to table or give a workshop on employee rights.
