We invite you, our community allies, to participate directly in workers’ struggle against unjust working conditions. Join Worker Justice Wisconsin’s new Rapid Response Network by signing up here!
By signing up, you will receive text notifications when we have an impending worksite action, inviting you to stand with workers when they defend their rights. These actions can include a picket to protest unjust working conditions or retaliations workers’ are experiencing for organizing. Most of the time, the action will support workers whose wages have been stolen.
Wage theft occurs every day in our community, disproportionately impacting low-wage, immigrant workers, women, and people of color. Often, these workers feel too scared and alone to speak up, and the state’s complaint process for recovering stolen wages can be frustratingly slow. We partner with workers to pressure their employer directly to pay their stolen wages back, and this approach has worked!
We invite you to hear Marlon Velázquez’s story about how he fought for justice and fair wages in the construction industry with the support of WJW. In 2023, the subcontractor that hired Marlon owed him and his coworkers $22,000 in unpaid wages—an experience that is all too common for immigrant workers. By directly pressuring the general contractor who hired the subcontractor, Marlon and his coworkers confronted power directly and got their money back.
Your direct allyship can make a big difference in the impact of a workplace action—most actions will take no more than 30 minutes. Remember, an injury to one is an injury to all!
