After a long, hot August month, the Worker Justice Wisconsin staff got to wind down at the South Central Federation of Labor’s Labor Fest celebration. We helped bring Spanish-speaking immigrant workers to the forefront of attendees’ minds through the Solidarity roll call, selling homemade horchata and tres leches-churro cupcakes, and newly designed Worker Justice t-shirts.
Labor Fest recognizes working class labor by gathering members of several unions and their loved ones to celebrate the holiday weekend with music and food. Wanting to represent the cultures that many of our workers come from, Worker Justice sold horchata and tres leches-churro cupcakes… selling out both an hour before the event even ended!
A raffle to win a Worker Justice t-shirt and mug also took place, with Colin Gillis winning the t-shirt, and Christine Powell winning the mug!
Labor Fest served as the perfect place to center some of our most involved members, including Pablo Rodriguez, Maria Lourdes Correa, Franco Da Costa Lenteneli, Liliana Barrera, Pablo Aquiles, and Kurt Kobelt. Together, we celebrated immigrant worker organizing during the roll call. It’s only by including those at the roots that a strong labor movement can be built!

Después de un largo y caluroso mes de agosto, el personal de Worker Justice Wisconsin pudo relajarse en la celebración del Labor Fest de la South Central Federation of Labor. Contribuimos a que los trabajadores inmigrantes de habla hispana estuvieran en la mente de los asistentes a través del llamado de solidaridad, a través de la venta de horchata y panquecitos de tres leches hechos en casa y de camisetas de Justicia Obrera Wisconsin con
un nuevo diseño.
Con el deseo de representar a las culturas de las que provienen muchos de nuestros trabajadores, Worker Justice vendió horchata y panquecitos de tres leches ¡y se agotaron una hora antes de que terminara el evento!
También se llevó a cabo una rifa que tenía como premio una camiseta y una taza de Worker Justice. Colin Gillis se ganó la camiseta y Christine Powell, la taza.
Labor Fest sirvió de lugar perfecto para poner en el centro a algunos de nuestros miembros más comprometidos, entre ellos Pablo Rodríguez, María Lourdes Correa, Franco Da Costa Lenteneli, Liliana Barrera, Pablo Aquiles y Kurt Kobelt. Juntos, celebramos la organización de los trabajadores inmigrantes durante el pase de lista. ¡Solo se puede construir un movimiento obrero fuerte si se incluye a quienes forman las raíces del mismo!
