March for Justice! Saturday June 1

On June 1, 2012,  workers at Palermo’s Pizza went on strike for better wages, safe working conditions and the right to a union.  Palermo’s, owned by the Falluca family, sells frozen pizzas under its own brand lines, as well as under large chain supermarket house names.   Earlier in 2012, 90 workers had been fired immediately after their attempt to organize.   In the year since, the workers have pursued a case with the National Labor Relations Board, and worker justice groups from around the state have publicized their plight.   Recently, the Dept. of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited Palermo’s for 8 safety violations.  Just this month, a  worker lost three fingers on the job.

One year later, Palermo owners continue to refuse to talk to their employees collectively.  The UW, despite student protests,  continues to sell Palermo’s Pizza.  And so we march with the workers from Palermo’s factory to the owners’ home, to tell them that these brave families are not done fighting for justice – and neither are we.

Send off rally at 8 am!  RAIN OR SHINE  Start at Palermo’s at 3301 W. Canal St. and end with an 8:00 p.m. candlelight vigil at the owners’ home in Mequon. (Vigil flyer)   The march is set up with sponsored rest stops at set times, so that you can do all 18 miles or whatever part works for you.   CLICK HERE FOR A DETAILED SCHEDULE  ICWJ will be one of the hosts at Rest Stop #3 in the afternoon.  The walk from Rest Stop #5 to the end will be an important time to show the workers that we are with them all the way.   We encourage you to take part at any point of the day that works for you.    Click here for a walker’s checklist  and Click here for a  Route Map .         Share the event on Facebook
